The Word of God is
Jesus Christ
The very first verse
in the gospel of John tells us that in the beginning was the Word and the Word
was with God and the Word was God. The Bible also says, "In the beginning
God created the heaven and the earth." Genesis 1:1. I believe in Creation
and another proof in the Bible is found in verse three in the gospel of John.
This truth says all things were made by Him and nothing was made apart from
Jesus Christ. Our Lord is the very embodiment of life. He will shine in
darkness and this darkness will not be able to understand the Light of Jesus
Christ.
(1) "In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2)
The same was in the beginning with God. (3) All things were made by Him; and
without Him was not any thing made that was made. (4) In Him was life; and the
life was the light of men. (5) And the light shineth in darkness; and the
darkness comprehended it not." John 1: 1 - 5.
Jesus Christ is God
and one with the Father. When the apostle John uses the term, "Word of God"
this means the same with God. Jesus Christ is the second Person of the Trinity
because He is the first - begotten of the Father. Jesus Christ is the Word
because by him God has in these last days spoken to us. He has made known the
mind of God to us somewhat similar when the words of a person make
known his or her thoughts to other people except Jesus Christ is
perfect and we are very far from this attribute because our
characteristics in us are flawed. This is why we need Jesus Christ.
When this passage
says, "In the beginning was the Word" … the apostle John is talking
about the existence of Jesus Christ before His incarnation and before time even
began on earth. The world had a beginning but Jesus Christ did not have a
starting point and please do not try and figure this out because you will
fail at every turn. We can not possibly understand that the Son of God (the
second Person of the Trinity) was in the beginning but never began.
When the Bible says
the Word was with God and the Word was God we need to understand that this is
repeated in verse two in a different way because the text says the same was in
the beginning with God. The meaning is clear in that Jesus Christ was from
eternity. God created the world and Jesus Christ was with God in essence
and substance because the Word (Jesus Christ) was God and still is and will be
for all eternity. Sin did not catch the Triune Godhead by surprise because this
grand affair of people's reconciliation back to God was understood
between God the Father and His Son (Jesus Christ) in eternity past before
Creation.
In verse three this
passage writes all things were made by Him (Jesus Christ). He was with God and
very active in the divine operations in the beginning of Time. In fact as
I read further down in the latter part of verse three the Holy
Spirit penned through the apostle John says without Him was not anything
made that was made from the highest angel to the lowest bug. In plain simple
terms God the Father did nothing without His Son in the work of Creation. This
is proof that Jesus Christ is God. Our Messiah is not only the author of
creation but the author of our faith. He redeemed our soul for our salvation in
Him.
Verse four says in Him
was life. Notice the apostle John is speaking a lot about Jesus Christ in the
past tense. He is establishing right up front that Jesus Christ is God. He
is the very embodiment of life and light. As believers we have His life
but we should long for His light. Our spirit should be the candle of the Lord
which comes from the life and light of God. The eternal Word (Jesus
Christ) lights this candle in our spirit and as a result we are able to
shine through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. If we do not know
Jesus Christ we do not have life. The person that is not redeemed through the
shed blood of Jesus Christ is dead in his or her sins. That does not sound like
life. In fact it is death. People that are saved are right with their
Creator. People that are not saved are separated from their Creator. Remember
we would not even be here if it were not for Jesus Christ. As Christians
we receive the light of divine revelation from the Bible which is the Word of
God.
Verse five says …
"And the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it
not." When Jesus Christ is manisfested to them in one way or
another whether it be through Creation or some other means there is not a
notice that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. It is usually not even regarded as
a high priority. May I make a suggestion. Let this be a high priority. The Son
of God is the Word of God who is life and His Light can shine in your heart.
You just have to make a decision that the Lord of the entire universe desires
to have a personal relationship with you but He will not force Himself on you.
Choice is usually where the connection is made in any fellowship between two
parties. If person A and person B does not work together there is no
relationship. If you admit that your heart is dark and empty without Jesus
Christ remember verse five says … "And the light shineth in darkness. One
problem I personally see is the average Person's conscience is not convicted
enough to feel very strongly about this issue of eternal salvation through
Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was also prophesied in the Old Testament and if
anybody can read Isaiah chapter 53 and not come to the conclusion that Jesus
Christ is the Son of God through that reading then something is very
wrong.
If you would like to
accept Jesus Christ into you heart as personal Savior and Lord now may be a
good time to repent of all your sins and invite the Son of God into your
life. God Bless you
Bob D.
